There are numerous Myrtle Beach attractions other than golf. This makes Myrtle Beach the ideal destination for a golfing family or a golfing spouse with family or just the guys who want to live it up after golf. There are some great Myrtle Beach family vacation ideas here.
The theater scene alone is enough to blow you away, it would take a long vacation to hit them all. Calvin Gilmore started it all back in 1986 with a little theater in Surfside and my how it has grown. Check them out. You'll love the entertainment.
The Carolina Opry - "An entertainment phenomenon" (Southern Living Magazine). There are two things that you have to see when you come to the Grand Strand: the ocean, and The Carolina Opry. It's that simple. The first variety show in Myrtle Beach - and still the jewel in its crown, The Carolina Opry has for 21 years been thrilling the hundreds of thousands of visitors who pass through its doors each year. The New York Times calls it "A hit
with visitors," The New York Post calls it "A Hot Ticket" and USA Today reports it "A Big Hit." "Talk about high energy! That's entertainment!" (Atlanta Journal-Constitution). The award-winning show blends two hours of critically acclaimed music, comedy and dance - from Broadway to country, from classic pop to rock'n roll, and gospel to bluegrass. Also featuring "All That" - the hotter-than-hot urban cloggers featured on the hit NBC show "America's Got Talent." Directed and produced by Calvin Gilmore (performer on the Grand Ole Opry and winner of the Best Producer award at IGCITA in Las Vegas) The Carolina Opry is the only show to receive every top tourism award, including the coveted Governor's Cup, and Most Outstanding Attraction, the only show that has been voted #1 show every year, and the only show to have an official day (Carolina Opry Day) proclaimed for the State of South Carolina by the Governor. If you only see one show while you're in Myrtle Beach, it must be the show that brought entertainment to Myrtle Beach - The Carolina Opry. From the moment you enter the stunning two-story marble lobby, you know you are in for an extraordinary experience that your family will remember long after the tans have faded and the sand has been shaken from the shoes.

Dolly Parton and the horse she came in on created Dixie Stampede Dinner & Show. These riders know what there about, singing, hooting and hollering and a spoof on the recent unpleasantness between the North and the South. 800-433-4401

Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament, a return to the middle ages in more ways than one. A whole chicken served on a plate without knives or forks. Hard Rock Cafe with lots of things to see, dedicated to "Rock". Don't expect gourmet food, but the atmosphere makes up for it.
Imax Theater, and of course you know what Imax is all about. Don't go with a hangover.
Visit the Garden City Pier, enjoy the live entertainment at the far end, visit the games and amusements when you enter. People fish all along the pier and you can too. It's a lot of fun for very little money.
Waccatee Zoo in Socastee off Route 707 is a fun stop with the little kids, up close and personal, pet the deer and you can actually feed some of the animals. It's a small scale operation but popular for years, a hidden treasure in Myrtle Beach. visit http://www.waccateezoo.com or call 843-650-8500
Water Parks and water slides turn the kids on in Myrtle Beach. One really great facility is Wild Water, this one combines water activity and mini-golf. Also a great favorite at the beach is
Myrtle Waves - a water slide to out-do all water slides. Also - a side note, there are no water parks or miniature golf south of Garden City, They are not permitted in Georgetown County!
Atalaya at Huntingdon Beach State Park on Hwy 17 South down in Murrells Inlet. Home to Archer M. and Anna Hyatt Huntingdon, it is a most unusual building, almost like concrete bunkers, small rooms, small windows, but interesting when the famous Atalaya Arts and Crafts festival is there in September. It was rumored that Mr. Huntingdon signaled German subs out from the beach. I find it hard to believe...but who knows. Anna Hyatt Huntingdon was a sculptor and responsible for arranging for other sculptors to display their works in the now famous Brookgreen Gardens, just across the highway.
Brookgreen Gardens is not to be missed when you're in the area. There are 750 sculptures dotting the acreage.
From small flora and fauna to heroic size animal and human statuary. Spring is especially appealing when the Dogwoods and azaleas are in bloom. In June the Magnolias come out and it is a joy almost anytime of the year.
And no trip would be complete without a visit to Pawleys Island, the oldest oceanfront resort in the US. It was once a summer retreat for plantation owners who tried to escape the heat and mosquitoes of the plantations. You can see some beach homes from the 1700's and still in use!
Since we are a golf site, we figure anyone looking may be looking for miniature golf courses, almost as renown as our real golf! Below is an adventure in miniature golf. Take a look at fun mini-golf courses in Myrtle Beach. They all have themes and you'll have a great time.
